The renowned publisher has welcomed a seasoned producer from the creators of Apex Legends to direct the studio crew at their internal studio, which is currently working on the upcoming third-person roguelike extraction-shooter known as this innovative game.
Management Change Follows Mixed Feedback
The new appointee takes on the leadership position at the development studio following the departure of previous head the ex-Sledgehammer Games executive, who was reportedly let go due to Project Ethos' lackluster initial reveal last autumn.
Recently, the company's top executive David Ismailer notified team members about this strategic move through an official communication, which stressed that early feedback sessions had indicated the necessity for a distinct vision.
Ismailer stated that the developers is now refining the project with a renewed vision, aiming to satisfy community desires.
A Pattern of Key Acquisitions
The news mirrors a similar action taken by the publisher in the summer, when they brought on an industry veteran from Blizzard to contribute to the BioShock development group.
Here is the complete content from Ismailer's announcement:
Hello Everyone—
I know you all just completed your gathering - I trust you’re as excited as I am with the recent updates. Previously I shared you all a update, I mentioned the following: “I believe in this group. You all are some of the most motivated and creative developers we have had the opportunity to work with - and we’re eager for that relationship to endure.”
With your dedication and adaptability, especially over the past twelve months, you consistently demonstrate that.
The player input from last fall’s the game testing phase was informative. It validated the potential of a roguelike shooter but told us we still had refinements needed. It highlighted the need for a more distinct vision.
It has been motivating to see how far you’ve advanced. You embraced the input to consideration and overhauled Project ETHOS with a revitalized goal - one that’s positioned to fulfill its ambition to our audience.
Our confidence in Project ETHOS strengthens every day. To boost the incredible development you’ve made, I am thrilled to welcome the new hire as the latest Studio Head of the team. After a period of discussions, he officially joins us on the specified date.
Ben’s guidance and experience in the PVP shooter space is extensive, having dedicated the past decade and a half producing and leading some of the most recognizable franchises in the industry, such as Call of Duty: Black Ops, and most recently, Apex Legends.
Please join me in receiving him next week. We are all eager to persist seeing the progress of Project ETHOS in the months to ahead.
David
Background of the Incoming Head
The appointee currently holds the role of executive producer and production lead at Respawn Entertainment for Apex Legends. He previously was employed at major gaming companies in various development positions on the iconic franchise games, and, earlier in his career, had stints at other industry leaders.
Title Information and Vision
Project Ethos was announced in last year together with a community playtest. At the time, the developers portrayed the game as a "no-cost, 3rd-person roguelike hero shooter and an exciting advancement on the style."
"Create your ideal gameplay session—or face defeat—in this engaging over-the-shoulder adventure! Build your hero in live gameplay to suit your personal playstyle," the game's pitch reads. "Challenge the rivals with fresh skills, risks, and challenges that change every session. Do you withdraw carefully with your hard-earned loot? Alternatively go big, put it on the line, and pray your team can secure victory? The decision is in your hands."
The game does not have an official release date or platforms, but fans can look forward to additional details as creation continues.
