This New Horror Film Is Now Streaming, and It Has the Power to Test Your Romantic Bond.

We present a dare for those in enduring partnerships who are fans of horror films: Settle in with your significant other and watch Together. This critically acclaimed 2025 movie recently had its streaming debut on the Hulu service. On the surface, it may seem like standard biological terror, but beneath Together lies a deep examination about how we choose to love one another.

An Introductory Film Investigating Relationship Dynamics

Together is the first full-length movie for filmmaker Michael Shanks. It features Dave Franco and Alison Brie as Millie and Tim, partners that have stayed together for over ten years. Married in reality in 2017, the actors contribute a unique chemistry to their portrayals, skillfully embodying both the good and bad of a long-term relationship.

The plot commences when the couple relocate from the big city to the country for Millie’s job. A commonly used plot device, of course, but that’s mostly where the conventions end. Together transforms into as much a psychological exploration of the pair’s relationship as it is a film about physical terror.

A Supernatural Catalyst

While walking near their rural residence, a violent storm occurs, and Millie and Tim discover an underground cave. After spending the night there and eventually escaping, a mysterious influence takes hold of the duo. This force compels a otherworldly bond between them that goes exceeding typical partnership.

The whole movie is a methodically building fright fest, interspersing elements of dreamlike terrors, gross (but tastefully done) body horror, and surprisingly comedic dialogue (sometimes amidst something disturbing). The director weaves these elements together neatly and presents them in a slowly mounting aura of dread.

Complex Characterizations

A significant portion of Together is exclusively Brie and Franco, and they masterfully render countless layers to the dynamic between Tim and Millie. Her self-assurance and emotional bond is deteriorating due to a emotional and physical gap. Her subconscious resentment of Tim for his unwillingness to focus on anything other than his floundering music career slowly bubbles to the surface.

Tim, on the other hand senses confinement and isolated by Millie, who’s the impetus they’ve relocated rural and far away from his network of friends. He fears the idea of utterly sacrificing his individual identity in Millie. This fear is further exacerbated by the fact he does not operate a vehicle and needs Millie for mobility.

The director's cleverest decision in Together avoids making one partner or the other the definite antagonist.

The couple face the kind of problems that come with most partnerships over a long period. Fundamentally, they still love one another. They still laugh together, offer support, and open up at times. But under the surface, there’s an inescapable feeling of questioning about their bond.

Allegory and Meaning

While the supernatural forces in Together represent these fears of unhealthy attachment and giving oneself over to another person, the metaphor avoids being hamfisted or pretentious. Instead, these visceral horror elements provide a brilliant analogue to the relationship narrative. Both the frights and the fights enhance each other symbiotically.

A Controversial Conclusion

Together’s conclusion, which won’t be spoiled here, has sparked debate on the story's concluding statement about unhealthy partnerships. Reports indicate that single viewers have interpreted the film as a powerful case for remaining unattached. Meanwhile, a few pairs who were in conflict found that the film ultimately assisted them make up.

Whether you’re single or coupled up, your own response could potentially serve as a telling indicator of how you think about commitment. Will the ending inspire a sense of discomfort and fear, or a heartwarming sense of hope? Will you identify in either protagonist and feel frustration, or simply look at your significant other and state, “I’d do that for you”?

Regardless of the outcome, Together is an exploration you can experience today.

Together is available to watch on Hulu as of this moment.
