The tournament joins the US and Aussie Opens in employing video review systems.
Video review systems will be launched at The Championships in the upcoming tournament.
Players will gain the ability to challenge particular calls from the official, following the practice currently in use at each of the US Open and the Aussie major.
This technology is slated for use on the main stadium and Court One for the duration of the tournament and on the remaining show courts when they are staging singles matches.
This move arrives only a season following the All England Club rolled out ELC, which brought an end to the 147-year role of line judges.
Reviewable Decisions
Players cannot to dispute the accuracy of the ELC system, but they can request the official to review other situations, such as:
- If a ball has bounced twice.
- If a shot touched an opponent's racquet or body during play.
- Possible hindrance at the conclusion of a rally.
Importantly, there is an unlimited number on the number of reviews a competitor can ask for.
Practical Application
An illustrative incident took place in a recent tournament recently, where a top player initiated the review system against his opponent.
Draper conceded it was a tough call for the official, but believed his opponent had "played the rules effectively."
Official Aurelie Tourte watched a replay and ruled Draper was responsible for interference, granting the point to Medvedev.
Growing Trend
This technology are not exclusive to major tournaments. The system was adopted at the US Open since 2023 and the Aussie Open this year.
Furthermore, it is becoming more common on the WTA circuit, and by next season the men's ATP Tour will have video reviews implemented at every one of its tournaments.
Other Changes
A further innovation at Wimbledon 2025 involves the introduction of graphical cues on scoreboards to support the audio calls from the ELC system.
This solves situations where fans have sometimes been uncertain whether a shot was in or out.
Finally, with exactly a century of days to go until the beginning of the tournament, organizers have also revealed an increase in daily attendance at the qualifying competition in the qualifying venue.
